Littlefoot: When the grown ups are asleep we sneak away to find food. But we leave good tracks so they are sure to follow us. If we can find greenfood, enough for everyone until the stuff at the great valley grows back they won't fight. and no one will be hungry.

Ducky: But what if we can't find greenfood?

Littlefoot: There has to be Greenfood somewhere.
